We want participants to reduce stress and anxiety built up through lockdown by having fun, making friends, developing resilience and broadening their horizons.
Challenge
It's been a really tough year with the covid pandemic. Trips were not originally part of our programme because they did not emrge as a theme during our consultation and initial co-design efforts. As we began to co-create our programme with beneficiaries, they places more emphasis on trips. We wanted to make sure that beneficiaries had opportunities to extend their social support network by making friends and gaining developmental support from our staff, enhance executive function and self regulation skills, and have fun. So we worked with our beneficiaries to squeeze some into our programme.
The musem photoshoot
We took a small group of children to the Science & Media Museum where they attended a photoshoot for the museum brochure and were able to explore the galleries for 2h after it closed to the public. They had a great time, made friends and accessed opportunity that would otherwise have been unavailable to them.
The children wanted to go to the park and try out the playground and gym equipment. They had a great time playing for 90mins and had some nutritious snacks afterwards.
Participants wanted to go to Laser Zone so we booked the whole arena for over 2h, took 53 children and got in four games. Some of the younger children were initially nervous, but everyone said they had a great time. Nine children were unable to go to laser tag so we took them to the park and had ice cream.
