Cost of Living Crisis

Cost of Living Crisis

Poverty is one of the defining challenges of our time. Many of the families we serve were just about keeping their household finances balanced but, in early 2022, rapidly increasing living costs have thrown many into financial hardship. The vast majority of the families we serve are adept at cooking low cost meals and finding ways to stretch their budget, but the rising cost of food and household bills have made this even more difficult. So education isn't what is needed.

We run a small food provision for people experiencing financial hardship,  holiday food programmes for children in receipt of free school meals, and a charitable giving arm to make sure that children have the equipment they need for school and families can access basic hygiene and household goods. These services are always over-subscribed but we try our best to stretch our resources.

In 2021-2 we have allocated £30,000 to this provision. In the first 6 months we served 1008 individuals, primarily people on universal credit and asylum seekers. Since then we have targeted our support even further to those families who are most in need.
