We want participants to explore their own passions and interests through activities they are excited about and enjoy. Building on students passions is a key approach to unlocking latent learning potential and paved the way for work on building aspiration, re-engaging children in learning and enhancing both self-belief and self confidence.
Challenge
From our baseline assessments we found that children were about a year behind their age related expectation in maths. More importantly, as intermediary learning outcomes, we found that children were disengaged with the learning process.
What we are doing
We use a range of strategies (peer learning, metacognitive approaches and social and emotional learning) to re-establish the link between effort and reward for our participants. This included coaching to develop growth mindsets and stress reduction strategies to enhance receptiveness to activities. We adopted a substantial co-creation programme to help participants take ownership of their learning and our HAF2021 programme.
Science Museum Exhibition
We're working on our exhibition for the Science and Media Museum. Here's a preview of our work, which is now in the second draft.
