Spending Local

HAF2021 Spending Local

Supporting local people, local communities and small businesses

We want to support the communities we are part of as much as possible. So we spent as much of our grant locally as possible, 97% in fact. We spent a two thirds of our grant supporting small and medium sized business in Keighley and surrounding areas. A quarter of our grant was spent directly on employing local people, and a further 5% was spent at local outlets for large corporations, e.g. supermarkets.

Supporting local businesses and community groups

We spent 66% of our grant with small and medium sized enterprise in Keighley and surrounding areas, including charities and community centres. Sometimes buying locally proved more expensive than using suppliers from elsewhere, but we feel it is important to support business and local employment by buying local.

Employing locally

A quarter of our grant was spent on employing local people. We provided a positive climate to work in, training tied to increased employability skills and a living wage. All staff achieved a level 3 certificate in first aid. Most of our staff were returning to the workplace after many years spent raising children. So, we helped our staff build confidence and supported their workplace socialisation.
