Covid has had a long term impact on our communities in the following ways:
Lost learning
Accumulated stress
Lost relationships
Financial hardship
Lack of ownership and control
Lost Learning
We continue to support children and young people catch up and are trusted to overcome the underlying challenges to learning that may be hindering their progress. We have increased the number of children who are supported on a reduced or no-fee basis and are working with parents to equip catch up learning at home, particularly in key stage 2 and 3. We are running accelerated programmes for year 10 and 11 and are equipping learning at home for children who feel they are not being supported enough by their school.
Accumulated Stress
Covid was stressfull and many people experienced some degree of trauma. We are working on ways to support people develop their stress coping mechanisms, so they can re-engaging with academic chalenge and are more resilient to change.
Covid resulted in bereavement, relationship breakdowns and isolation across our community. We are researching childrens access to developmental relationships and working on programmes to support them further.
Covid caused many employment difficulties, and whilst the job market picked up, many people continue to experience employment transition as living costs are rising. We are providing employability support and easing the immediate cost of living.
Many children we work with feel like services, such as schooling, are done to them rather than inclusive. We have found this experience of being subject to education is becoming more widespread as schools implement their catch-up plans.
To counter-balance children's sense of being controlled, we co-create our provision with our community so that our projects ae highly tailored to their needs and they feel a sense of belonging and ownership of the work we do together.
We also have an ongoing consultation programme and opportunities for our community to volunteer, access work experience (often paid) and assume leadership roles.
Mental Health and Trauma Informed Provision
We have a trained designated mental health lead and are working with beneficiaries to continually improve our provision through friendly, trauma informed staff.
